Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has underscored that the party is confident Ghanaians will reject the ruling NPP government.<\/b><\/p>\n

The communications officer at a press conference dubbed \u201cMoment of Truth\u201d series in Accra on Monday, February 19, lashed out at the Akufo-Addo\/Bawumia government for spending USD$12 million on the botched Agyapa Royalties deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only way Ghanaians can get to the bottom of the litany of corruption acts and scandals involving officials of this government, including [Vice President] Bawumia himself, is for the good people of Ghana to resoundingly boot the NPP out of government on 7th December 2024,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

According to Sammy Gyamfi, voting the NPP out of office is \u201cthe surest bet of exacting genuine accountability\u201d from the persons involved in any corrupt acts in the current NPP government.<\/p>\n

Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, CEO of the Minerals Income Investment Fund, told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament that $12 million was spent on the deal.<\/p>\n

President Nana Akufo-Addo cancelled the contentious agreement in 2021 after civil society organisations and the main opposition National Democratic Congress raised concerns.<\/p>\n

Before the cancellation of the deal, $12 million had already been spent on its initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy understanding, honourable chair, is that the Ministry of Finance procured the services of international consultancy and companies and financial institutions that have done this in the past and that the advice provided was what Ministry of Finance stood on\u201d, Mr Koranteng told the committee on Tuesday, Feb. 13.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started with the Ministry of Finance and from the documents that we have, it is clear that the correct advice was provided on the set-up of a gold royalties company where the streaming of the royalties would benefit Ghana,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The controversial deal was intended to raise revenue through mineral royalties for important infrastructural projects.<\/p>\n

The next NDC government will investigate the Egyapa scandal, retrieve all illegal payments and ensure that all the perpetrators are prosecuted.<\/p>\n

The NDC has also promised to investigate and prosecute all persons involved in the botched Agyapa Royalties deal when voted into office.<\/p>\n
