Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Fuseini Issah, has said that having successfully changed its leadership in Parliament, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must be allowed move on. <\/b><\/p>\n

He indicated that the NPP is preparing itself for a challenging election this year and they want to set a record of breaking the 8-year electoral cycle.<\/p>\n

He was contributing to discussions on circumstances leading to the resignation of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader and the appointment of Alexander Afenyo-Markin as his replacement.<\/p>\n

The Executive Director of African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr Rasheed Draman said Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was pushed out of office and a private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu also stated that what led to his resignation was embarrassing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an election ahead of us and there is nothing wrong with doing what has not been done in this country before, breaking the 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have transitioned from the leadership of Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to Afenyo-Markin and we should look forward. Let\u2019s move on,\u201d Mr Fuseini Issah said on on Saturday, February 24.<\/p>\n

The Suame lawmaker resigned on February 21 during a meeting between the Majority Caucus and President Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was pushed out \u2013 Rasheed Draman insists<\/p>\n

The NPP NEC held an emergency meeting in Accra on Friday February 23 to announce the changes made to the leadership of the Majority. At that meeting, the NEC decided to keep Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.<\/p>\n

He said on the floor of the House that his resignation as Majority Leader was voluntary.<\/p>\n

He thanked the Speaker Alban Bagbin for the cooperation that has existed between them over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for the cooperation and collaboration that existed between you and I over the entire period that our paths crossed,\u201d he said among other things.<\/p>\n

The MP for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was therefore appointed as Majority Leader.<\/p>\n
