Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 6.5 percent reduction in electricity tariffs for residential consumers using up to 301kWh of electricity.<\/b><\/p>\n

The PURC, in a statement dated February 27 noted that there will be no change (0%) in the prices paid by lifeline consumers (0\u201330 kWh) as well as residential consumers within the consumption bracket of 0-300 kWh.<\/p>\n

The reduction, which will take effect from April 1 to June 30, 2024, is intended to relieve the financial burden on consumers in this consumption band.<\/p>\n

\u201cTariffs within the 0-300kWh for non-residential class of consumers remains the same with no change in their rates. However, consumers within 301kWh and above class will experience an average reduction of 4.980\/0,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

The statement further stated, \u201cThere will however be an average reduction in electricity tariffs of 6.5% for residential consumers within the consumption bracket of 301kWh and above.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, consumers within 301kWh and above class will experience an average reduction of 4.98%,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Commission clarified that water tariffs for all categories will remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

The move by the Commission also forms part of its 2024 first-quarter review decision for electricity, natural gas, and water.<\/p>\n

As part of its November 2023 fourth-quarter pricing review, the PURC announced a 0.34% increase in water tariffs and a 1.52% decrease of electricity tariffs, effective December 1, 2023.<\/p>\n

The water rate for residential customers increased from GHS\/m3 4.72 to 4.74, while non-residential consumers climbed from GHS\/m3 14.13 to 14.19.<\/p>\n

Water sachet producers\u2019 tariffs have increased from GHS\/m3 22.26 to 22.34, while industrial consumers\u2019 tariffs will increase from GHS\/m3 25.29 to 25.38.<\/p>\n
