Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) President Delphina Quaye has commended the performance of the national team in the 2023 African Games.<\/b><\/p>\n

The team battled resiliently rubbing shoulders with South Africa, Egypt, Algeria and others who are known to be dominant forces in swimming.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Ghana managed to secure its first swimming medals in African Games and made it to several finals.<\/p>\n

Captain Abeiku Jackson secured a silver medal after finishing second in the Men\u2019s 50m Butterfly. He also won bronze in the 100m Butterfly establishing Ghana\u2019s presence on the podium when it comes to swimming.<\/p>\n

Quaye is proud of the improvement given the fact that the team had never gone thus far closer to the podium.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgainst South Africa, going against Egypt, going against Algeria, these people are masters in the game and for our kids to go to finals for every event that we participated in, I think they\u2019ve done exceptionally well,\u201d he told Citi Sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey didn\u2019t do too badly, fourth position, fifth position, out of age 16 people, I think they are on their way to becoming stars in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The swimming medals won by Ghana have added to the country\u2019s tally as they now have five total medals in the games following Winnifred Ntumi\u2019s heroics in weightlifting to win three medals (a gold and two silvers).<\/p>\n

Team Ghana is still hoping to clinch more medals and surpass their number in 2019 in Morocco. The team won a total of 13 medals in the previous edition with non in swimming.<\/p>\n

There are hopes for the team in Athletics and football among others as the competition intensifies.<\/p>\n
