Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Minority in Parliament has vowed to use every legitimate means to prevent the Ghana Airport company from charging passengers a 20 dollar fee for the repair and maintenance of baggage converter belts.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Ghana Airport company in a letter said effective May 1, 2024, travelers using the Kotoka International Airport in Accra will be required to pay a fee of $20 for maintenance work and help cover the cost of baggage belt repairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurther to discussions with the executives of the Airport Operators Committee regarding our baggage belt overhauling and maintenance issues, the Board of Directors of Ghana Airports Company Limited, in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, is instituting maintenance charge of $20 on all round-trip airline tickets ($10 to be charged each way)\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis fee will be effective May 1, 2024,\u201d the letter indicated.<\/p>\n

The Transport Minister has been hauled before the house to explain the decision by the company.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the minority chief whip and former ranking member on the road and transport committee, Kwame governs Agbodza has indicated that no amount of justification by the company will compel the Minority MPs to allow for the charging of the fees.<\/p>\n

Following the announcement by the GACL, several concerns were raised against the GACL\u2019s decision. In a statement on March 14, the company announced a new decision to suspend the charges until further deliberations.<\/p>\n

It said a meeting had been scheduled with the Airline Operators Committee (AOC) and the Board of Airline Representatives Ghana in consultation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the matter.<\/p>\n
