Director of elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of corruption.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Electoral Commission has connived with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to deceive them into a meeting only for them to realise that they were there to witness the demonstration of a software for a new biometric register.<\/p>\n
He stated categorically that, the Electoral Commission, headed by Jean Mensa is not being transparent as mandated; by employing irregular and inappropriate means to chip in the new biometric register.<\/p>\n
Mr Ankrah added that his party gave the EC chairperson the benefit of the doubt to hold a transparent discussion but nothing has changed; the party claims her attitude has worsened.<\/p>\n
He stated that \u201cSeveral sessions were held and public fora were even done so why is it that they wanted to introduce this as if by the back door?…Again we found it irregular because you don\u2019t put those proposals in an emergency meeting and take note that in the notice that was sent we were not going to discuss new biometric register. Again for the second time, they tried to hide under the cover of the EC\u2019s programme.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOur IT people together with other political parties raised counterfactuals and proved to them that there was no need for a new biometric register and we stated cogent reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other issues raised by the party include the EC\u2019s decision to entrust its data with the Director-General of NCA, Joe Anokye who has tainted his reputation by openly declaring his membership as a member of the ruling NPP.<\/p>\n
As a follow up to register their displeasure, the NDC, together with four other parties walked out of the IPAC meeting – United Front Party, the Eagle Party, the All People\u2019s Congress, People\u2019s National Congress (PNC).<\/p>\n
