Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Keli Gadzekpo, the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has resigned from his role, effective April 9.<\/b><\/p>\n

In his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, March 27, Mr. Gadzekpo cited personal reasons as his motive behind the move.<\/p>\n

He went on to wish ECG and the government continued success in their efforts to provide stable electricity for the country.<\/p>\n

Then-Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko appointed Gadzekpo to the board in 2017 and assigned him a strategic role aimed at achieving energy sufficiency.<\/p>\n

As an experienced entrepreneur, he has helped to develop and build several enterprises, most notably the Databank Group of enterprises, which includes Databank Asset Management Services and Databank Epack Investment Fund Ltd.<\/p>\n

Gadzekpo, who has over two decades of investment banking experience, is currently the Board Chairman of Enterprise Group and the Chair of the Databank Foundation, the Databank Group\u2019s corporate social responsibility arm.<\/p>\n

His resignation comes on the back of mounting pressure on the ECG amidst an erratic power supply (Dumsor).<\/p>\n

The power distributor has been urged to publish a load-shedding timetable, a move that has been shot down first by the managing director, Dubik Mahama, and recently by the sector minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Deputy Minister for Energy, Herbert Krapa, as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the power distribution company.<\/p>\n

A press release issued by the Jubilee House today [March 27], said, \u201cMr. Krapa, a lawyer, will remain in office as Deputy Minister for Energy. His nomination, contained in a letter addressed to his minister, Dr. Matthew Prempeh, MP, comes at a time when the country is experiencing intermittent interruptions with electricity supply, a matter the President is determined to overcome in the shortest possible time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The press release further stated that \u201cKrapa is expected to lead the Board to give not only direction to the besieged Managing Director of ECG and his team but to also ensure proper coordination across agencies in the power sector to ensure stable power supply to Ghanaian consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n
