Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Coalition of Stakeholders in Electricity Contracts and Arrangements (COSECA), has accused President Akufo-Addo of contributing to the challenges and dysfunction of the power sector.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement dated March 26 and signed by its executive secretary, Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, the coalition criticised the president for not adhering to the \u201claid-down structures\u201d governing the sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cCOSECA wants to assert that the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has contributed immensely to the challenges and the dysfunction of the sector because of his unwillingness to adhere to the laid down structures in the sector and because of this, he is always ill-advised, and his behavior is adversely affecting the smooth running of affairs in the sector,\u201d parts of the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are advising the government to reduce the interference in the sector to allow players within to run affairs smoothly for the benefit of all of us,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

Also, the coalition stressed that the Energy Commission is \u201calmost nonexistent,\u201d indicating that the commission is not seen playing \u201cthe role of a proper technical regulator in the sector that enforces proper conduct on all the utility service providers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the candid opinion of the COSECA, Ghanaians deserve to know the root and true cause of the rampant electricity outages in the country at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unfortunate that, as a nation, we are getting varying reasons for the current challenges facing the electricity sub-sector,\u201d it stressed.<\/p>\n

According to the coalition, the findings of the audit on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are \u201cnot pleasant and very damning,\u201d adding that the ECG appears not to \u201ccooperate fully with the auditors.\u201d<\/p>\n

COCECA therefore called on the power distributor to cooperate and support the Price Water House Coopers to allow them to do a good job.<\/p>\n

The coalition also advised ECG to implement all the recommendations given by the auditors.<\/p>\n
