Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (Care Ghana) has appealed to the Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong to retract and apologise for his statement that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/b><\/p>\n

In a statement, Care Ghana expressed great concern and disappointment about the Minister\u2019s choice of words during an NPP event in Kwahu.<\/p>\n

According to them, the statement regarding not handing over power to the opposition NDC after the 2024 elections is nothing short of an attack on Ghana\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister\u2019s statement stands in direct opposition to the democratic values and principles upon which Ghana was founded. His words betray a fundamental lack of respect for the will of the Ghanaian people and undermine the very essence of democratic governance\u201d, the statement said.<\/p>\n

The statement said, by openly advocating for the subversion of the will of the people is a direct attack on the letter and spirit of the 1992 Constitution and therefore Bryan Acheampong has positioned himself as an enemy of Ghana\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis actions threaten to erode the hard- won gains of our democratic journey and sow seeds of discord and division among the people. We call on the government to take decisive action to ensure that such individuals whose actions pose threat to the hard- won reputation of our country are distant from his administration. The people of Ghana deserve leaders who respect the people\u2019s decisions and are committed to upholding Democratic values and serving the best interests of the nation\u201d, statement stated.<\/p>\n

The statement signed by the Executive Director of Care Ghana, David Addo, said it is imperative as citizens to stand firm in defense of our democracy and reject any attempt to undermine its principles.<\/p>\n

\u201cBryan Acheampong\u2019s blatant disregard for the rule of law and the sanctity of free and fair elections cannot be tolerated, and his words must be met with the strongest summary condemnation\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

He urged him to retract his statements immediately and offer a sincere apology to the people of Ghana for his betrayal of our trust and confidence.<\/p>\n
