Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Experts are pushing for the government to enroll the treatment of persons living with Autism Spectrum Disorder onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).<\/b><\/p>\n

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder characterized by behavioral and communicational affections that impact a person\u2019s ability to navigate social interactions and also cause repetitive and restricted behavior.<\/p>\n

In Ghana, a study in 2016 suggests one in 87 children under the age of three is autistic.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media, the Founder of Mulan Neurodiversity School, Thara Brigitte Mills, urged the Ministry of Health to partner their outfit by funding their draft policy, which seeks to bring relief to the uncountable number of persons living with autism in Ghana and depend heavily on treatment for survival.<\/p>\n

World Autism Awareness Day is observed on April 2 to recognize and spread awareness for the rights of people with autism. The condition typically starts during childhood and continues into adulthood.<\/p>\n

According to the Child Mind Institute, an institute dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders, based in the USA, boys are more likely to have autism than girls.<\/p>\n

In the same vein, the founder of Mulan neurodiversity school and Mulan Smart Educational Center, Brigitte Thara Mills is calling for the enrollment of autism in the National health insurance scheme to guarantee continued treatment.<\/p>\n

She also called for increased attention and support for individuals on the autism spectrum in Ghana.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s World Autism Awareness Day 2024 is Colour to honour and cherish the diverse spectrum of abilities and experiences in the autism community reports Positive Autism organization.<\/p>\n
