Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, April 4 continued his engagements with key stakeholders, as part of preparations for this year\u2019s elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

He met members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, in Accra, to throw more light on his policies for the industry and the nation.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, he said \u201cWe\u2019re going to change the duty structure and go into more of a flat specific duty. If you have a 40-footer container, you know how much you are paying in cedis. So, you take the exchange rate out of the matter and deal with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also going to make sure that our duties in ports by policy cannot be higher than in Lome, which is our competitor. And right now, there\u2019s a lot of diversion of containers to Lome because ours are higher.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the engagement, he further wrote on his X platform that the interaction also gave him further insight into issues of concern to members of the Society, which I pledged to include in my policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cTransforming the industry and making Ghana a pharmaceutical hub in West Africa to start with, will be of enormous benefits to Ghana, and my government, by the grace of God, will focus on that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a committed political will and the right investment to support the industry, it is possible to make Ghana a pharmaceutical hub in West Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n
