Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>An Accra High Court has struck out the alleged assault case filed by the Democracy Hub and 23 others, against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for want of prosecution.<\/b><\/p>\n

Through the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest the youth of Ghana expressed their displeasure at the hardship, the rising cost of living, bad roads, an end to corruption, and other issues that make life unbearable.<\/p>\n

The protest, which took place from September 21 to 23, 2023, attracted both local and international attention.<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that a number of the protesters were arrested, while others filed complaints against the police at the Accra High Court.<\/p>\n

The protesters took the view that they had been brutalised and assaulted by the police and took the matter to court, where they asked for damages for the alleged assaults.<\/p>\n

Legal Affairs Correspondent Joseph Ackah-Blay, who was in Court today, Tuesday, April 9, reported that when the case was called, the lawyers for Democracy Hub and the other plaintiffs were not present in court.<\/p>\n

Also, there were no representatives from the Attorney-General\u2019s office, nor was there any individual present on behalf of the IGP.<\/p>\n

Having called the case, the judge announced she was striking out the case for want of prosecution. That is to say that those who have filed the case are not present in court to push for their case to proceed, so on that basis, the court has struck out the case.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the plaintiffs are at liberty to have the case relisted for it to continue, but for now, there is no case before the court.<\/p>\n
