Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that a new mode of financing education infrastructural projects is going to be introduced under his administration if he is elected president this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

He said this new arrangement will avoid huge initial government outlays and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools.<\/p>\n

Dr Bawumia said these during an engagement with National Executives of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) that took place at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, April 22.<\/p>\n

Dr Bawumia indicated after the meeting that the national executives of CHASS made some \u201cexcellent\u201d contributions to improving the free Senior High School Policy and general aspects of education.<\/p>\n

In a Facebook post after the meeting, he said \u201cI used the opportunity to explain my vision of leveraging the private sector and an enhanced credit system to expand educational infrastructure and support teaching and non-teaching staff to improve the quality of education and educational outcomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder my proposal (which I mentioned during my February 7th speech at UPSA) the private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure (such as dormitories, classrooms, etc.) which government will rent over a period of years and own it after a period of time. Government will also lease buses for schools. This new mode of financing will avoid huge initial government outlays (through the GETFUND) and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike me,\u201d he added \u201cCHASS is excited about the prospects of this policy proposal as it will reduce the educational infrastructure deficit, improve maintenance, enhance the quality of education and at the same time improve the management of Government expenditure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful to the leadership of CHASS for the honest and fruitful discussions. It is possible!\u201d<\/p>\n
