Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Two Youth Organizers have petitioned international partners of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) over demands they made regarding the biometric voter registration (BVR) kits.<\/b><\/p>\n

The two \u2013 Jude Balma of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and Mark Ewusi Arkoh of the People\u2019s National Convention (PNC) \u2013 had petitioned the EC to provide serial numbers on all BVR kits to be used for next month\u2019s limited voter registration exercise.<\/p>\n

They also demanded numbers of BVR kits to be deployed at each centre.<\/p>\n

Petitioning under the umbrella institution Election Watch Ghana, the two are yet to receive a response from the EC.<\/p>\n

They, therefore, wrote to the EC\u2019s international partners, first to the First Secretary in charge of Elections at the British High Commission, to impress upon the EC to respond to the demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour Excellency, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has refused to even acknowledge the receipt of our request letter, even though the limited registration exercise is supposed to start in few days time,\u201d the letter to the British High Commission said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur request for the serial numbers is based on the established protocol for fairness and transparency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, the release of the serial numbers to those of us at IPAC, has been the practice since 2001.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the two, the situation is casting darkness on the upcoming elections and \u201craises our fear that the 2004 general elections is being rigged\u201d.<\/p>\n

They want the High Commission to intervene.<\/p>\n
