Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>As part of efforts to promote educational cooperation, the Lebanese Community in Ghana has awarded scholarships to some 21 students at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC).<\/b><\/p>\n

The scholarship package covers the full fees of the 21 beneficiaries amounting to a whooping GHC100,362.35.<\/p>\n

This follows an expansion in the scheme after ten (10) years of the Lebanese Community supporting journalism students at the same university.<\/p>\n

Students to benefit from this extension are from the Fine Arts (Film and Television), Communications (Public Relations) and Translation faculties at the University of Media, Arts and Communication.<\/p>\n

The ceremony which happened in the presence of the Lebanese Ambassador H.E. Maher Kheir, Vice Chancellor of UniMAC Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah, Deans of various Faculties, Senior staff members of UniMAC, and a Representative of the Lebanese Committee Naaman Ashkar saw 4 post-graduates, 12 undergraduate journalism students, 2 Public Relations students, 2 Film & Television students and 1 Translation student walk home with the scholarships.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Maher Kheir noted that the additional disciplines were necessary to promote justice, and equality in society while integrating people and cultures.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we honour the recipients of these scholarships, we also recognize the importance of nurturing talent and fostering creativity in these vital fields. Your talents are priceless, and the impact you\u2019ll have on society is immeasurable\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that students in Journalism, will be the voices that uncover truths, amplify unheard perspectives, and hold power to account while highlighting the importance of other disciplines.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn communication, you will be the architects of meaningful dialogue, building connections and fostering understanding in a complex and interconnected world. In fine arts, you will inspire us with your creativity, challenging us to see the world in new ways. In translation, you will be the bridges that enable cultures to exchange ideas, stories, and experiences across linguistic boundaries\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

His Excellency Maher Kheir challenged the beneficiaries to make the most of the scholarship to excel in their chosen fields of endeavour.<\/p>\n

He stated, \u201cAs scholars in your respective fields, you have the opportunity \u2013 and the obligation \u2013 to use your skills for the greater good, to uphold the highest ethical standards, and to advocate for truth, justice, and equality.\u201d<\/p>\n

He again urged the beneficiaries to \u201cstay curious, stay open-minded, never stop learning and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.<\/p>\n

On his part, Vice Chancellor of UniMAC Professor Eric Opoku Mensah thanked the Lebanese Community for their commitment to the university over the years and particularly for increasing the school\u2019s quota.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very grateful to the Lebanese Embassy headed by the Lebanese Ambassador and the Lebanese Community for their relentless commitment to supporting our students over the years and for increasing our quota\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The scholarship, he stated, forms part of the enormous contribution from the Lebanese Community to education in Ghana.<\/p>\n

He encouraged the beneficiaries to amplify the values of the university and profession.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to all the beneficiaries for their commitment to academic excellence. You embody the spirit of UniMAC and I urge you to go out and reflect the values of this prestigious university\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged the contribution of the staff highlighting their mentorship which has played a pivotal role in the academic journey of students.<\/p>\n

Professor Mensah called on students to contribute positively to society by using their knowledge to uplift others in society.<\/p>\n

He stressed \u201cContinue striving for excellence. Embrace opportunities. Learning is infinite so let your knowledge gained propel you to greater heights.\u201d<\/p>\n

A beneficiary, Brillience Afrane Boakyewaa assured the donors that the investment made in them would yield valuable fruit to academia and society.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Kheir and Lebanese representative Naaman Ashkar presented the cheque of GHC100,362.35 to the Vice Chancellor.<\/p>\n

Since its inception, the Lebanese Community Scholarship now covers students in Journalism, Law, Languages, Performing Arts, Film and Television, Public Relations, and Translation fields.<\/p>\n

The group cut a cake to celebrate the special occasion.<\/p>\n
