Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>A Political and social analyst who is also a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Jonathan Asante Otchere, has predicted that the ongoing erratic power outages will negatively affect the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, 2024 general elections.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with host of Connect FM\u2019s Kokromotsir Political Program, Wofa Ato Koomson on Thursday, April 25, Dr Otchere emphasized the significance of energy-related issues in shaping voters\u2019 decisions.<\/p>\n

He cited that in 2016, during the era of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NPP profited from \u2018dumsor\u2019, as a major campaign tool that caused the former to lose power.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the political analyst made it clear that history seems to be repeating itself, stating the Akan Proverb that \u2018\u2019 Abaa yedi bo Takyi no, ye di bo Baah\u201d, to wit the cane used on Takyi is also used on Baah.<\/p>\n

According to him, the ongoing energy crisis is going to be one of the instruments the electorate are going to base on to vote, and it will have a significant impact on the NPP\u2019s chances.<\/p>\n

He narrated an incident on the UCC campus where some students who were writing their exams had to bear very uncomfortable heat due to a power outage, emphasizing on the stress it comes along with.<\/p>\n

Current power situation not as bad as the \u2018dumsor\u2019 days \u2013 Prof Adei<\/p>\n

Another incident is when he had to sleep in his car; \u201clast week I slept in my car for hours before going home in the night because of dumsor, because the kind of heat we are enduring today is unbearable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jonathan Asante Otchere is emphatic that voters prioritize factors such as the economy, infrastructural development, high inflation rate, and corruption, among others when casting their ballots and this will show come December.<\/p>\n
