Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Ghana attacker Mohammed Polo has raised concerns about the readiness of Otto Addo for the role of Black Stars coach.<\/b><\/p>\n

He said the former Ghana international was forced into the position and may not have been adequately prepared.<\/p>\n

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) re-appointed Otto Addo as head coach of the senior national team in March 2024, following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Despite claims by the GFA\u2019s search committee chairman, Mark Addo, of over 500 applicants for the position, the Executive Council ultimately opted for Addo\u2019s return.<\/p>\n

Polo criticised the decision to re-appoint Addo, questioning whether he was truly prepared for the job.<\/p>\n

\u201cOtto was not even ready. He was been forced to take up the job. Those who are ready, give it to them,\u201d Polo told Joy Sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guy came here and he told you point blank he has a job, and you said, \u2018Please, come and do the job,\u2019 as if we without him, nobody can do the job. What is this?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe came, fine, and qualified us to the World Cup [in Qatar] with only two matches.\u201d<\/p>\n

Polo\u2019s remarks come in the wake of Otto Addo\u2019s mixed results in his initial matches as head coach, with a defeat to Nigeria and a draw with Uganda in March international friendlies.<\/p>\n

Addo now faces the challenge of guiding the team through the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR) in June.<\/p>\n
