Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Joseph Addo, the personal driver of President Nana Akufo-Addo, has won the La Dadekotopon NPP primary with 664 votes.<\/b><\/p>\n

His closest contender and MCE for the area, Solomon Kotey Nikoi, polled 555 of the total votes cast.<\/p>\n

In all, 1,221 delegates out of the 1,312 voters turned out to vote in the Saturday, April 27 primary.<\/p>\n

Addo had been optimistic about winning the primary and vowed to reclaim the La Dadekopon seat for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the party lost it to the NDC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was born and bred here in La, I have lived all my life here so I am not new in this constituency,\u201d Addo told reporters after filing his nominations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have helped the youth in this area get jobs and employment in government agencies,\u201d said Joseph Addo, who has served as President Akufo-Addo\u2019s driver over the last two decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy motivation to contest as a parliamentary aspirant of the ticket of the NPP is that I know I can do the job better. Mostly of my supporters are the youth of La who have been neglected by previous MPs in the constituency.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are backing me now because they know I can help them and in fact, I have helped a lot of them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah of the NDC defeated the NPP for the La Dade-Kotopon seat. With the polls in December, the NPP hopes to reclaim the seat.<\/p>\n

The primary in La Dadekotopon was necessitated by the resignation of the NPP\u2019s parliamentary candidate, Dr. Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio. He cited personal reasons for his decision.<\/p>\n

The highest decision-making body of the party, the National Executive Committee (NEC), in a statement dated April 19, therefore, gave clearance for the primary, which was slated for today, Saturday, April 27.<\/p>\n
