Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama has charged President Akufo-Addo ti ensure that this year\u2019s elections are free fair, and credible.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the view of Mr Mahama, free and fair polls will be the best legacy President Akufo-Addo can leave to the country as he is exiting office after serving two terms in office.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best legacy he can leave this country is to superintend over a peaceful, transparent, and credible election,\u201d Mr Mahama said when speaking at the Gonja Land Youth Congress in Damongo where he also cut sot for the construction of a multipurpose Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Sunday April 28.<\/p>\n

He further stated that the power to choose President Akufo-Addo\u2019s successor in the elections does not rest with the President.<\/p>\n

Mr Mahama stated that it is God who chooses leaders, not President Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to remind him that it is God who makes rulers and, he can never ever be the one to choose his successor, it is God who will choose the successor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama is urging President Akufo-Addo to ensure that the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections remain peaceful<\/p>\n

Mr Mahama\u2019s comments come after President Akufo-Addo has repeated his intention not to have him to succeed him after the December 7 elections.<\/p>\n

The president said he cannot have the NDC flagbearer, whom he defeated twice, succeed him after his tenure ends on January 7, 2025.<\/p>\n

President Akufo-Addo conveyed gratitude to the chiefs and residents of Wa for their unwavering support throughout his term.<\/p>\n

He shared with Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the paramount chief of the Waala traditional area, his plan to revisit the region with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, who he envisions as his successor.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the election is held, I am going to come here and pay my proper goodbye to you and thank you for the cooperation that I received from you when I was president. God willing, when I come, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Akufo-Addo made it clear that he does not intend to transfer power to John Dramani Mahama, whom he defeated and removed from office in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cWa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor and as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying.\u201c<\/p>\n

\u201cOur country is known as the pacesetter for democratic government across the entire continent of Africa. I want to assure you that this year we are going to maintain that reputation. But I need your support and cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want us to work together to make sure that the peace and stability of our country is maintained all through the electioneering period and after,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the President vowed his unflinching dedication to ensuring that there is peace before, during, and after the December elections.<\/p>\n
