Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Korle-Bu Teaching hospital has dispelled reports that it cancelled some scheduled surgeries due to the recent power outages.<\/b><\/p>\n

On Monday, April 29, reports emerged that the hospital had cancelled a number of scheduled surgeries to be conducted because it experienced power cuts.<\/p>\n

Citinewsroom.com reported that a patient who disclosed the situation to them on the condition of anonymity said, \u201cThis is the second time my surgery was cancelled. The first was because the oxygen machine wasn\u2019t working. Today, it\u2019s due to power fluctuations. I\u2019m really scared, but what can I do? I leave everything to God.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report also quoted a doctor who said \u201cthese are critical cases, and we can\u2019t afford to risk people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital said the report is \u201cmisleading\u201d as surgeries for all elective cases were carried out as scheduled.<\/p>\n

The hospital clarified that there was rather a \u201clow current for about 45 minutes\u201d during which it said \u201cfunctional standby generators came on stream and provided power throughout until the problem was resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the hospital, two cases at the department of surgery were returned to the ward on account of limited space in the recovery ward and not due to power outage.<\/p>\n

The statement added that aside these two cases, all other surgeries were carried out as planned.<\/p>\n

Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital assured the general public that it prioritizes patients\u2019 care and will continue to provide excellent services to address health needs.<\/p>\n

It urged the media to exercise great circumspection in publishing stories and ensure full verification of stories.<\/p>\n

According to the hospital, false publication \u201cundermine public confidence and create unnecessary fear and discomfort among our patients.\u201d<\/p>\n
