Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his preparedness to work together with the labour unions to achieve progress if elected president.<\/b><\/p>\n

The leader of the largest opposition party said he is ready to work with the unions to \u201cbuild the Ghana we all want together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am prepared to work with you again to commence the vital repair work our country needs after enduring such turbulence. We have achieved progress before, and I am confident we can do so again,\u201d former President Mahama said.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 1, to observe 2024 International Workers\u2019 Day, the former President stressed the significance of his proposed 24-hour economic policy to forge a brighter future for Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we can forge a brighter future for Ghana\u2014a future that secures both your present and addresses the risks posed to your SSNIT pensions by the current government.<\/p>\n

\u201dI call on every Ghanaian to support this transformative vision, which promises to revitalise our job market and foster long-term sustainable development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the NDC flagbearer, adopting a 24-hour economic model will \u201cdiversify our economy and empower our workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis approach will enable more flexible work schedules for workers, enhancing work-life balance, well-being, and productivity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the NDC 2024 presidential candidate bemoaned the state of the Ghanaian economy as characterised by corruption, massive unemployment, and incompetence, making life unbearable for workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s celebration is tempered by our country\u2019s severe challenges because of poor governance, incompetence, economic mismanagement, and institutionalised corruption under the current administration. Never in our history has a democratically elected government taken a wrecking ball to our economy with such ferocity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe forthcoming elections on December 7 offer us a pivotal opportunity to alter our current trajectory and set a new course. During my first tenure as President, I steered the affairs of this nation through similarly challenging times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe overcame a significant energy crisis, implemented a universal salary structure, spearheaded transformative infrastructural developments, and built a more resilient economy,\u201d Mr. Mahama emphasised.<\/p>\n

He further called on Ghanaians to uphold peace and unity before, during and after the December 7 polls.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s commit to ensuring that our upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections are conducted peacefully and fairly, with a steadfast focus on upholding workers\u2019 rights,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n
