Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>A political science lecturer and analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has strongly criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo for saying that he does not want to be succeeded by the NDC\u2019s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, whom he defeated twice.<\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Otchere said there is an \u201cinherent illogicality\u201d in the comments by the President.<\/p>\n

This, he said, is because Mr. Mahama also defeated President Akufo-Addo in 2012 but during the 2016 electioneering campaign, the former President did not pass such comments.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo, while addressing supporters at a mini-rally in Doboro in the Greater Accra region following a visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited, reiterated that he has no confidence in Mr. Mahama to develop the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t hand over to someone I defeated twice and who is not happy with everything I do; he will destroy the work that I have done.<\/p>\n

\u201cVote for Dr. Bamwua; I have worked with him for the past seven and a half years; I have confidence in him; I know he can continue the good work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Asante Otchere spoke to news analysis programme Hot Edition<\/b> on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is quite unfortunate that pronouncements as base as some of these are coming from people who are supposed to know better. I think that an exiting president who has nothing to lose should think of leaving a legacy of smooth transfer of power.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very important. So it doesn\u2019t matter who wins but the point is that although your favourite son is equally contesting, if you have nothing to hide, I think you shouldn\u2019t be worried about who wins the elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is an inherent illogicality in his pronouncement that this is somebody he\u2019s defeated; he doesn\u2019t think that he should be the one he should hand over to, I\u2019m telling the President that there is an inherent illogicality in his presentation,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the political analyst maintained that President AKufo-Addo poses a significant challenge to the Bawumia campaign if he continues on this trajectory.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, I think that the President is a major problem for Dr. Bawumia\u2019s campaign but as of now, they wouldn\u2019t know until they have lost the elections.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cFor me, he is not contesting, he is just a distraction for Dr. Bawumia…by that stretch of imagination, I feel that you are rather making Bawumia not to be his own man.\u201d<\/p>\n
