Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>In a bold move amidst escalating tensions between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, the Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr. Omane Boamah, has announced the party\u2019s decision to meticulously document the serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits.<\/b><\/p>\n

This decision comes despite the EC\u2019s steadfast refusal to release this information to the party.<\/p>\n

Dr. Boamah minced no words in expressing the party\u2019s suspicions, saying that the EC\u2019s refusal only heightens our belief that something fishy is afoot.<\/p>\n

Asserting the party\u2019s right to access this information, Dr. Boamah emphasised, \u201cWe have instructed our personnel to meticulously record the serial numbers. The EC cannot justify withholding this vital data from us, especially considering they are funded by Ghanaian taxpayers.\u201d he told Nana Yaa Brefo on Yen Nsempa, Onua FM cohosted by Isaac Ekow JB.<\/p>\n

He raised poignant questions about the EC\u2019s priorities, particularly regarding the recent theft of BVR kits and their serial numbers. \u201cWhy is the EC unconcerned about thieves possessing these crucial serial numbers yet doubts the integrity of a registered political entity like the NDC?\u201d he queried during the interview on May 10, 2024.<\/p>\n

Dr. Boamah\u2019s remarks come in the wake of the EC\u2019s recent statement refusing to disclose BVR kits\u2019 serial numbers deployed for the ongoing voter registration to the NDC. Citing security concerns, the Commission stressed the pivotal role serial numbers play in device operations and activation code generation.<\/p>\n

The EC reiterated that divulging this information to any third party poses a significant risk to the registration process\u2019s security and integrity.<\/p>\n

The EC\u2019s stance, however, has only fueled the flames of distrust between the electoral body and opposition parties.<\/p>\n

Dr. Boamah\u2019s pointed remarks underscore the NDC\u2019s resolve to safeguard electoral transparency and fairness, even in the face of institutional resistance.<\/p>\n
