Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ashanti Sub-transmission of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has had an inter-sectoral arrangement with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to boost supply capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity in the region. <\/b><\/p>\n

The understanding was reached at a recent meeting held at GRIDCo\u2019s headquarters at Anwomaso in the Oforikrom Municipality in Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n

The agreed arrangement during the meeting was to install a 145MVA power transformer between GRIDCo and ECG Bulk Supply Points to replace one of the three 50MVA transformers to increase the installed capacity to meet the growing demand in load, especially during the period 7:00pm-11:00pm.<\/p>\n

Before this capacity-building arrangement, the 50MVA transformers at Anwomaso BSP were sometimes stretched to their maximum loading capacity because of the increase in demand at peak times.<\/p>\n

But with the installation of the 145MVA transformer, the total installed capacity would be 245MVA instead of the existing 150MVA (that is, 3x50MVA transformers). The two sector players believe this will help improve supply capacity and reliability in the region.<\/p>\n

Similarly, at the meeting, there was an agreement to upgrade the Obuasi and Konongo Substations to 50\/66 MVA transformers to meet the growing industrial needs in the enclaves and improve supply reliability in the areas.<\/p>\n

There were also discussions to send another 145MAV to Ridge BSP shortly to increase the supply capacity of the Station, and the region as a whole.<\/p>\n

After the indoor discussions between the two companies, there was a site visit to assess where the 145 MVA transformer could be installed.<\/p>\n

Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager for Ashanti Sub-transmission, and his team jawed-jawed with the GRIDCo team on-site to find a suitable location for the new transformer to reduce the material cost of cable laying and other civil works.<\/p>\n

They have promised consumers of reliable power supply.<\/p>\n

According to the companies, they have put in place measures to ensure that all emergencies are addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs companies responsible for the transmission and distribution of power in Ghana, we recognise our critical importance to the country\u2019s socio-economic development.<\/p>\n

We have therefore put in place a comprehensive business continuity plan and programme to ensure our engineers are on call to attend to emergencies when they occur across the region\u201d, the companies assured.<\/p>\n

Currently, the region has two Bulk Supply Points, Anwomaso and Ridge that supply high-voltage power to other primary substations that feed the local transformers to serve consumers.<\/p>\n
