Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Awal Mohammed, the Head of Public Affairs at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and NPP Communicator, has declined to confirm whether or not the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s office has released the GHC177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the trainee nurses allowance.<\/b><\/p>\n

He retorted that he is not the Controller and Accountant General to be able to determine if the release has taken place.<\/p>\n

The Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, speaking at the International Nurses Day in Accra on May 14, 2024, announced that government was going to release an amount of GHC177 million to the Health Ministry within 72 hours to pay off the allowances of trainee nurses in the country.<\/p>\n

The assurance from the Vice President follows an incident in the Bono East region where, during engagement with the youth, a final-year trainee nurse publicly asked Dr. Bawumia when their allowances were going to be paid.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to assure the nursing trainees that by Thursday this week, the Controller [And Accountant-General] is transferring an amount of GHC177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the trainee allowances,\u201d Dr Bawumia assured.<\/p>\n

However, the NPP Communicator, Awal Mohammed, speaking on Friday, May 17, could not provide an update on the release.<\/p>\n

When asked whether the amount had hit the Ministry of Health\u2019s account, he remarked, \u201cI am not the Controller and Accountant General.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to indicate that the NPP\u2019s 2024 presidential candidate has revolutionised the traditional campaign trail, emphasising Dr. Bawumia\u2019s community engagements, house-to-house interactions and market visits, as well as youth town hall meetings.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m saying that in the campaign what he does is that it is not the conventional campaign that you know. The campaign he does it that in the morning he will meet the clergy with the Imams, after that, he will meet the chiefs, they also raise their concerns he notes them and tell them what he will be able to do for them, and then he will do the youth connect,\u201d he told Roland Walker on the Big Issue segment.<\/p>\n

When pushed further on the release of the money for the nurses, he retorted, \u201cI don\u2019t know that for a fact at the moment but what I\u2019m telling you is that he [Dr. Bawumia] says the money will be transferred yesterday [Thursday, May 16].\u201d<\/p>\n
