Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>President Nana Addo Dnakwa Akufo-Addo travelled to Accra by a military aircraft hence, was not part of his convoy that got involved in the fatal accident on Sunday, May 19, the Seat of Government has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Presidency said Mr Akufo-Addo is safe and unhurt due to the route that he used.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, 19th May 2024, several vehicles belonging to the President\u2019s convoy were involved in a fatal accident along the Bunso-Akyem Asafo stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway.<\/p>\n

The unfortunate incident occurred whilst the convoy was on its way back from Kumasi, after accompanying the President to Kumasi for a series of events this weekend.<\/p>\n

Tragically, one of the drivers, Mr. Kwesi Atta, has lost his life.<\/p>\n

Additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President\u2019s security detail have sustained varying degrees of injuries and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.<\/p>\n

Presidential convoy involved in accident; 1 dead, President is safe<\/p>\n

The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation.<\/p>\n

Several vehicles in the convoy have also been completely wrecked as a result of the accident.<\/p>\n

A statement issued and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency Eugene Arhin said \u201cFortunately, the President is safe and unharmed, as he travelled to Accra via military aircraft.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured officers. Further details will be communicated as we continue to assess the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
