Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Citizen\u2019s Coalition, a group of civil society organizations against corruption, is requesting government responses to seven corruption-related cases.<\/b><\/p>\n

The demands include halting the sale of stakes in hotels by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel and directing EOCO to re-investigate the Cecilia Dapaah theft case.<\/p>\n

The civil society groups include the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Citizens Movement Against Corruption, Center for Democratic Development, and the Ghana Anti-corruption Coalition.<\/p>\n

They argue that the current state of affairs in the country necessitates immediate action from citizens and stakeholders, who are rather showing apathy.<\/p>\n

Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mary Addah, said \u201cthe constitution gives us the power to determine our destiny and heritage as a people and we must not look on aloof. If we don\u2019t talk now, posterity will judge us\u201d.<\/p>\n

The coalition is requesting government\u2019s accountability for national interest issues, including halting the sale of significant stakes in SSNIT-owned hotels.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that a stakeholder engagement in the preparation and development of accountability and anticorruption coordination legislation, is necessary at this time\u201d.<\/p>\n

And we also ask for Cabinet approval and laying of the Conduct of Public Office Holders Bill to regulate our weak asset and liabilities disclosure regime, gift-giving in the public service, influence peddling, and conflict of interest, among other public ethics behaviors<\/p>\n

They requested the president to submit all petitions on issues, similar to the petition for the removal of the special prosecutor\u201d, said Dr. Kojo Asante of the CDD.<\/p>\n

The coalition is determined to take further actions if government\u2019s response to its demands is delayed.<\/p>\n

Below are all the seven demands by the group<\/p>\n

1. Full publication of the KPMG report on SML-GRA agreement.<\/p>\n

2. A full report from the CID and Ghana Police Service on the source of money of Madam Cecilia Dapaah. We urge EOCO to reconsider its position on not investigating the Cecilia Dapaah case in accordance with Section 1 (3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.<\/p>\n

3. A stakeholder engagement in the preparation and development of accountability and anticorruption coordination legislation.<\/p>\n

4. Cabinet approval and laying of the Conduct of Public Office Holders Bill to regulate our weak asset and liabilities disclosure regime, gift-giving in the public service, influence peddling, and conflict of interest, among other public ethics behaviors.<\/p>\n

5. A withdrawal of the appointment of the parliamentary aspirants to SOEs.<\/p>\n

6. We demand an immediate halt and thorough investigations into the justification for selling shares in the four state-owned hotels, as well as other allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, and procurement breaches.<\/p>\n

7. On the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam, we demand the Ministries of Finance and Works and Housing, and other relevant sector agencies to publish the full details of the work done, including its current status, and disclose all payments made on the project.<\/p>\n
