Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Yaw Buaben Asamoa, a former MP for Adenta on the ticket of the NPP who has crossed the carpet to join Movement for Change (M4C), has said the arrest of Hopeson Adorye is an attempt to muzzle the movement.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Asamoa asserted that the action by the police was \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d.<\/p>\n

Adorye, a leading member of the Movement for Change, was arrested by the police over comments that he detonated dynamites in the Volta Region during the 2016 general elections. He made the comments in a radio interview in Accra.<\/p>\n

However, Mr Asamoa maintained that the arrest would not muzzle members of the movement.<\/p>\n

According to him, he accompanied Mr. Adorye to the police headquarters and stated that Adorye was asked to make a statement, spending the entire day there.<\/p>\n

However, around 6 pm, they were told that Mr. Adorye would be detained pending further instructions from above.<\/p>\n

Mr. Buaben Asamoa emphasised that Adorye\u2019s arrest is politically motivated, stating that the police are waiting for instructions from above, implying that the arrest is not solely a police decision.<\/p>\n

He also believes that Adorye\u2019s arrest is an attempt to muscle the Movement for Change and silence Adorye, who has been vocal about his opinions.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause if Hopson has been up and running and there are people who are feeling a little edgy and Jiffy about some of the things he has been saying. And this is the way of muscling him, trying to frighten the movement for change, it won\u2019t work. I believe strongly that it\u2019s politically motivated,\u201d Mr Asamoa said in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mr Adorye was granted bail on Thursday, May 23, by the Dansoman District Court, set at GH\u00a220,000 with two sureties, one of which must be justified.<\/p>\n
