Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Evans Nimako, the Director of Research and Elections for the governing New Patriotic Party, has said the NPP understands issues of elections far better than their opponents, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/b><\/p>\n

He said that regarding issues of elections, the NPP are \u201cprofessors,\u201d whilst the NDC are \u201cstudents\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also dismissed the assertion that the NPP never voiced concerns about the extension of the period for the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, stressing that, \u201cthe NPP does not dictate to the Electoral Commission on what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Electoral Commission (EC) in a statement issued on Friday, May 24, announced a two-day extension of the 21-day limited voter registration exercise that commenced on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.<\/p>\n

Mr Nimako speaking on news analysis programme Hot Edition<\/b> on Friday, emphasised that the party had since 2014 engaged the Commission on certain reforms in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t dictate to the EC, we don\u2019t dictate to anybody, we said that this is an exercise that is for 21 days. I mean some of the things the NDC are complaining about. As far back as 2014 the New Patriotic Party has made proposals to the EC on how to make necessary reforms to ensure that our multiparty democracy will grow and deepen.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when it comes to issues of elections, the NDC are students and we are professors, we know elections very well and so where you have a 21-day exercise and it has not come to an end, and you are clamouring for more days, what are you asking for?\u201d he quizzed the NDC\u2019s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, who was on the other end of the telephone interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the kids are asking for biscuits, we are looking at something more serious than what\u2019s happening now,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

But Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer took a different view of the claims made by Mr. Nimako.<\/p>\n

He maintained that the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, should have been arrested by the police for engaging in electoral fraud.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur laws are very clear as to who is supposed to vote on election day…so long as your name is not in the register, you are not supposed to vote, that is all…my brother Evans, let\u2019s do the right thing because if you\u2019re professors in elections and yet a professor will allow an illegality of that nature, your guess is as good as mine…he should have been arrested by now and the presiding officer who aided him to vote,\u201d Dr Tanko opined on the programme.<\/p>\n
