Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that agriculture is going to be part of his key economic policies.<\/b><\/p>\n

To him, Ghana will need to hold on strongly to agriculture in order to be able to produce more for local consumption and export.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a meeting with Volta Regional House of Chiefs as part of his campaign tour of the region, on Thursday May 30, Dr Bawumia said \u201cFirst of all, I think our country needs to hold strongly onto agriculture. Agriculture will continue to be very important in our economic policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll add 2,000 megawatts of solar power to Ghana\u2019s energy mix \u2013 Bawumia<\/p>\n

He added \u201cwe need to produce the things that we are really consuming, to be able to do so we need expanded and commercial agriculture, irrigation and technology-driven agriculture, that is where I want Ghana to go to support the farmers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Bawumia further stated that he plans to make Ghana a solar-driven country.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecondly, I belive that in terms of power and electricity, you cannot industrialise and really develop if you don\u2019t have a source of relatively affordable and available power.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want Ghana to move away from a dependence on oil and gas in the generation of power to move towards solar power and wind or renewable in the generation of power.\u201d<\/p>\n
