Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Attorney-General (A-G) Godfred Dame Yeboah has filed an application opposing Richard Jakpa\u2019s motion for a stay of the proceedings or for charges against him to be struck out, citing the alleged misconduct of Mr Dame.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the A-G, the third accused person, Mr Jakpa had not presented \u201cvalid grounds to justify the granting of the application\u201d, which is recognised in the country\u2019s criminal procedure and practice.<\/p>\n

Jakpa\u2019s legal team filed an application with the court on Thursday, seeking either the dismissal of the charges against him or the stay of the proceedings.<\/p>\n

In his sworn statement, Mr. Jakpa claimed that Mr. Dame had multiple interactions with him, during which Dame assured him of his innocence and promised his acquittal.<\/p>\n

Jakpa further alleges that Dame informed him that his involvement in the prosecution was intended to obscure the true purpose of the trial.<\/p>\n

He stated that Dame acted under pressure from President Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to target Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and the then Deputy Finance Minister.<\/p>\n

But the A-G characterised the application as a \u201cdeceptive and desperate attempt\u201d by the applicant to halt his legitimate prosecution for his role in causing financial loss to the state through the purchase of regular vans misrepresented as ambulances.<\/p>\n

\u201c…Wherefore, I swear to his affidavit in opposition to the application as frivolous, vexatious and a complete waste of this court\u2019s time,\u201d Mr Dame submitted in his affidavit.<\/p>\n
