Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has called on the government and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to create a congenial environment for beauticians and hairdressers to operate.<\/b><\/p>\n

General Secretary of the ICU, Morgan Ayawine who was speaking at the 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) in Tamale, insisted that the Union will protect the rights of workers.<\/p>\n

The General Secretary recalled how some MMDAs and government agencies have stifled the work of their members nationwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, we would like to humbly appeal to the government through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, to create a congenial work environment for GHABA operatives in the practice of their profession and also be measured in the tax assessment for them, so as to help them stay in business,\u201d he pleaded.<\/p>\n

In another development, Mr Morgan Ayawine urged members of GHABA to exercise their civic responsibility during the elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in election year, and as we draw closer to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in December, let us all be mindful of our civic responsibility to our constituencies and country,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

He cautioned them against utterances that will affect the credibility of the elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be cautious in our utterances and actions before, during and after elections, so as not to breach the peace that we all so much cherish, and which is a prerequisite for development of our country,\u201d Mr Ayawine said.<\/p>\n

Later, the members of GHABA elected new executives who will steer the affairs of the Association.<\/p>\n

The theme for the 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference was \u201cLeveraging modern technologies to drive a positive change in the hair and beauty industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
