Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said he will engage Cabinet on Thursday, June 06, 2024, to consider the inclusion of parents in the supervision of food distribution for students under the free SHS programme.<\/b><\/p>\n

There have been several complaints about the quality of food served the students in their respective schools, with reports of some school authorities stealing some of the items to their homes.<\/p>\n

The shortage of food supply, has also become an issue recently, when the Nation Food Buffer Stock complained of arrears from the government.<\/p>\n

During a meeting with the clergy as part of his tour to the Greater Accra Region Wednesday, June 05, the Vice President, reports, was asked by one of the clergy to consider the inclusion of the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) to supervise the food distribution to the schools if he becomes President.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they get five bags, they may declare one bag. If nobody is looking. And so, this is a brilliant, really, suggestion. So, tomorrow I\u2019ll be in Cabinet with the Education Minister and this is one of the first things I\u2019m going to tell him that we are going to have to do. This makes a lot of sense,\u201d Dr. Bawumia noted.<\/p>\n

He continued that \u201cI\u2019ve even written a book in 2010 on some of these things. And you\u2019ll find some of these ideas. These are the ideas that keep playing in my mind. I\u2019m always thinking of how to get things done, how to do things better, and all of that. So, I take your point very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Bawumia also expressed the need to roll out commercial agriculture as a major policy to address high prices of food on the markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing forward, this is why I\u2019m focusing on a few areas. First of all, I think agriculture and the expansion in food production will bring down food prices so that the hunger that we feel will come down. So Agric becomes very important in bringing down food prices.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why I believe that commercial agriculture, technology-driven precision agriculture, irrigated agriculture, mechanized agriculture is the way for Ghana to go, as many countries will do. I\u2019ve also made a suggestion. We hope to start experimenting this year for public transport to move towards electric vehicles,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
