Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Ghana star Samuel Osei Kuffour has strongly criticised reports suggesting that Michael Essien is facing financial troubles, asserting that the former Chelsea midfielder is wealthy.<\/b><\/p>\n

Recent reports circulated claiming that Essien was in financial distress following an Accra High Court order to sell two of his mansions, located at East Legon and Trassaco, both valued at millions of dollars.<\/p>\n

According to Sports Journalist Saddick Adams, the Accra High Court Commercial Division reportedly ordered the auction of two of Michael Essien\u2019s mansions located at East Legon and Trassaco, Adjiringanor.<\/p>\n

In response to these reports, Kuffour expressed his dismay during an interview with Angel FM\u2019s Saddick Adams, stating, \u201cTo bring out the news and say Michael is broke is a shame. It is a shame that we think so negatively about our people. We should be positive; Michael is not broke. We are talking about a house that they took from him, which cost $20 million and another one that cost $30 million.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kuffour continued, \u201cNobody with a proper conscience will come out and say all kinds of things. You never spoke to the person; you never know exactly what the person is going through. So, how can you justify saying someone is broke?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou would have to know if he comes to your house and begs for food, then you can justify it. I know the kind of assets that Michael has, and I will not stand anywhere and say Michael is broke. Michael is filthy rich.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saddick Adams had earlier revealed that Essien had signed a mortgage for the properties at East Legon and Trassaco years ago, paying in instalments.<\/p>\n

Later, he entrusted management to his wife, Akosua Puni, who was supposed to continue payments. When payments stopped, legal action ensued to recover funds.<\/p>\n

Essien, no longer interested in the properties, agreed in court to sell them. He plans to use proceeds to purchase another house, having substantial property holdings in London.<\/p>\n

Since retiring from his successful playing career, Essien has ventured into football management and is currently serving as an assistant coach at Danish club Nordsjaelland.<\/p>\n
