Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been touting the achievement of government at NPP\u2019s Annual Delegates\u2019 Conference.<\/p>\n
Addressing delegates at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra Sunday, Dr. Bawumia explained that the Akufo-Addo-led administration has instituted measures that have seen the improvement of Ghana\u2019s economy through the creation of jobs and automation of business transaction mechanisms.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are reducing the suffering of the people.\u00a0The first thing we did was to build an economy that can create and sustain jobs. In the public sector alone we have recruited over 350,000 people and we are paying them\u2026 Teachers were suffering, we have given them teacher trainee allowance. Nurses were suffering; we have given them nursing trainee allowance. It was difficult to apply for a passport because you had to deal with \u2018goro\u2019 boys. Today, we have automated the process and it is no longer difficult to apply for a passport,\u201d the Vice President listed to a cheering audience.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also cited the NPP government as being the \u201cfirst in the Fourth Republic to reduce electricity prices.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOn net terms, when you look at where we were when we came in, and electricity prices per kilowatt today, we are about 10% lower than where we were when we came in,\u201d the Vice President said.<\/p>\n
Government in April this year, announced a reduction in benchmark values on import duties, a move which triggered excitement among many Ghanaians in the importation space.<\/p>\n
Addressing the delegates, Dr Bawumia was of the view that this measure, coupled with abolishing taxes on activities of head porters have\u00a0alleviated the suffering of the citizenry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have reduced the suffering of many importers by reducing import duties by 50%. We have automated the process of clearing goods from the ports and reduced the suffering of our importers. Even the taxes on \u2018kayayei\u2019 [head porters] have been abolished,\u201d Dr. Bawumia added.<\/p>\n
He also disclosed that government is implementing policies to improve the fortunes of Zongo communities though the Ministry of Inner-city and\u00a0Zongo Development.<\/p>\n
The Vice President, however, challenged the opposition NDC to cite any social intervention policy under the erstwhile administration geared towards reducing the plight of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
