{"id":78311,"date":"2024-07-24T18:10:10","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T18:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/?p=78311"},"modified":"2024-07-24T17:41:41","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T17:41:41","slug":"cabinet-has-approved-a-framework-for-road-toll-to-be-reintroduced-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/cabinet-has-approved-a-framework-for-road-toll-to-be-reintroduced-in-2025","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet has Approved a Framework for Road Toll to be Reintroduced in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Government is looking forward to bring back the road toll after its cessation in 2021. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has disclosed that Cabinet has approved a framework established to facilitate the process of the reintroduction of the tolls in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister made this statement while presenting the mid-year budget review in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23.<\/p>\n<p>Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in June this year stated that road tolls must return to improve road infrastructure in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that the government currently lacks the necessary funding for infrastructure development and suggested that innovative solutions, such as road tolling, could offer a viable solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us go back to a system of broad-based road tolls. The tolling system has to come back, and I think it will come back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a fundamental mistake of the government to place all road projects on the budget. The government doesn\u2019t have enough money and the private sector has to be brought in,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Government canceled road toll collections in 2021 after introducing the e-levy which government said was to substitute the road tolls.<\/p>\n<p>However, the e-levy has failed to live up to its promise prompting government to bring back the tolls in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Ghana Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
