Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Equipment, desk, and chairs in Parliament\u2019s chamber are all expected to be changed, making a recall on September 3 impossible.<\/b><\/p>\n

Parliament show an alternative venue would have to be decided on for any sitting before October.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, August 7, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in a statement to recall members of Parliament indicated that the Parliamentary Service Board last year had decided to retrofit the parliamentary chamber for the 9th Parliament.<\/p>\n

He said the retrofitting has become necessary due to structural defects with the audio and video equipment in the chamber which have often disrupted proceedings such as forced suspension of proceedings or adjournment.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Director of Media Relations, David Damoah said the retrofitting is necessary.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some time now, the microphones and the laptop that we upload the parliamentary documents on have structural defects, so we have to reconfigure the whole place and replace them. The contract has been awarded and the contractor has been on site now as you can see we have removed them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWork is expected to be done before members resume in October. Per the timetable that we have, I think it\u2019s going to take us between now and September,\u201d Mr Damoah added.<\/p>\n

He said the Parliamentary Service Board and leadership of Parliament would have to find an alternative venue for the recall on September 3.<\/p>\n

Contractors from now to October would work around the clock to ensure a well retrofitted chamber for members when they resume.<\/p>\n
