Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister for Roads and Highways, says Ghana has made significant strides in road infrastructure development, positioning the country as a leader in Africa\u2019s road network expansion.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a two-day 2024 FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference in Geneva, the Minister stated that Ghana\u2019s substantial investments in road infrastructure had resulted in impressive outcomes, contributing to national growth and development.<\/p>\n<p>The global conference brought together global leaders, experts, and innovators in infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>Citing data from the World Bank, Mr Asenso-Boakye noted that Ghana\u2019s road density \u2014measured as kilometres of road per 100 square kilometres \u2014 stood at 32.8, nearly double the African regional average of 17 kilometres.<\/p>\n<p>This, according to the Minister, puts Ghana in a favourable position, with its road network coverage far exceeding the continent\u2019s standard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur rural accessibility rate is also commendable, with 63 per cent of our population living within two kilometres of all-weather roads, compared to the regional average of just 47 per cent,\u201d Asenso-Boakye stated.<\/p>\n<p><b>Strategic Investments in Infrastructure <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Minister reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to road infrastructure and said approximately 18 per cent of the 2024 national budget from the government had been allocated specifically to road development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis level of investment demonstrates our dedication to building a robust and sustainable road network that benefits all Ghanaians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Asenso-Boakye said, \u201cWe see road infrastructure not only as a backbone of national development but as a catalyst for improved livelihoods and economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that since the implementation of key road projects, the frequency of trips to health facilities in various communities has surged by 180 per cent, illustrating enhanced access to essential healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, in some areas, average household incomes had tripled \u2013 a testament to the economic benefits of improved transportation links, the Roads Minister said.<\/p>\n<p><b>Economic and Social Impact <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mr Asenso-Boakye further explained that vehicle waiting times had been nearly eliminated in several instances, enhancing transportation efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>He added that \u201cthe most significant impact has been the reduction in travel time to health facilities by about 60 per cent, enabling citizens to access critical healthcare services faster\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investment in roads has also strengthened the economic vitality of our country, improving connectivity and the overall quality of life for Ghanaians,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the government\u2019s efforts had been strategic with a focus on roads that enhanced both national and regional integration.<\/p>\n<p><b>Commitment to Sustainable Infrastructure <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, the Minister emphasized Ghana\u2019s focus on building infrastructure that was sustainable, resilient, and environmentally conscious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are incorporating eco-friendly practices, using durable materials, and ensuring that our projects are resilient in the face of climate change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Asenso-Boakye said education and workforce development were important to sustain Ghana\u2019s infrastructure growth, and that the Government had prioritized Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education at the high school level.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, he stated, aimed to build the technical expertise needed to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to ensure that Ghana not only meets the infrastructure needs of today but also secures the future by equipping our youth with the skills necessary to maintain and expand upon this progress,\u201d he further stated.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s achievements in road infrastructure, as outlined at the FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference demonstrate the nation\u2019s resolve to enhance its transportation network, promote economic development, and improve the quality of life for its people.<\/p>\n<p><b>Source: Ghana News Agency<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Ghana Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211;
