{"id":8194,"date":"2020-12-10T19:50:28","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=8194"},"modified":"2020-12-10T19:50:28","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:50:28","slug":"four-female-mps-retain-seats-in-eastern-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/four-female-mps-retain-seats-in-eastern-region","title":{"rendered":"Four female MPs retain seats in Eastern Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\">Ghana<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span><b>By Bertha Badu-Agyei<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Koforidua, Dec. 9 \u2014 Four  female incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) have retained their seats in the Eastern Region, while eight others who contested on the ticket of the various politcal parties lost.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The successful candidates are the New Patriotic Party\u2019s Abena Osei-Asare, Atiwa East and a Deputy Minister of Fiance; Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, Akropong and a Deputy Minister of Information; Gifty Twum-Ampofo, Abuakwa North and a Deputy Minister of Education; and Betty Krosbi-Mensah, Afram Plains North, who won on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In all, 12 women contested in 11 constituencies in the Eastern Region on the tickets of the NPP, NDC, Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP) and the Liberty Party of Ghana (LPG), with one as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The constituencies they contested are Atiwa East, Abirem, Akropong, Abuakwa North, Afram Plains North, New Juaben South, New Juaben North, Akim Oda, Achiase, Fanteakwa North and Suhum.<\/p>\n<p>Notable among the candidates who lost was Mavis Ama Frimpong, who contested on the ticket of the NDC.<\/p>\n<p>The former Eastern Regional Minister and former District Chief Executive  was defeated for the third consecutive time in her bid to secure the Abirem Constituency Parliamentary seat.<\/p>\n<p>GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
