{"id":8269,"date":"2020-12-20T15:49:15","date_gmt":"2020-12-20T15:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=8269"},"modified":"2020-12-20T15:49:15","modified_gmt":"2020-12-20T15:49:15","slug":"election-2020-greater-accra-house-of-chiefs-calls-for-calm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/election-2020-greater-accra-house-of-chiefs-calls-for-calm","title":{"rendered":"Election 2020: Greater Accra House of Chiefs calls for calm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\">Ghana<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Accra, Dec. 19- The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has condemned rioting and violence related to the 2020 General Election and called for calm.<\/p>\n<p>Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, in a press release, said the electoral process was governed by laws and that disagreements to any aspect of the process must be addressed and resolved using the appropriate procedures prescribed by the law and not violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are, therefore, dismayed at the events that have unfolded before and after the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission, \u201cit said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that these events will undermine the fundamental peace and freedom on which our country is founded and that which we all currently enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the 2020 General Election had been hailed as a success by observers and that such acts did not augur well for the peace and unity.<\/p>\n<p>It said such acts could stoke disunity, division and hatred- traits and must not be encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhana has earned the respect and admiration of many other nations due to the peaceful and lawful manner in which a previous election dispute was resolved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, therefore, not only condemn these acts of violence and criminality but request that all well-meaning Ghanaian people who love this great nation should desist from engaging in them,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our collectively responsibility to ensure that this country remains peaceful and continues to be a beacon of hope in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhana is our only home so let us work together to ensure that, in the words of our national anthem, Ghana remains great and strong,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
