{"id":880,"date":"2019-08-10T12:53:12","date_gmt":"2019-08-10T12:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=880"},"modified":"2019-08-10T12:53:12","modified_gmt":"2019-08-10T12:53:12","slug":"suhum-mp-explains-communication-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/suhum-mp-explains-communication-tax","title":{"rendered":"Suhum MP Explains Communication Tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Frederick Opare<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frederick Opare-Ansah, Member of Parliament (MP)<br \/>\nfor Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, who is Chairman of the Communications Committee in Parliament, has explained the reasons why Ghanaiansshould pay the amended Communication Tax which was recently passed by the House.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the sum of the Communication<br \/>\nTax would be used to strengthen cyber security in the country since most of thetransactions are being done via electronic means.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Opare-Ansah explained further that the<br \/>\nupsurge in electronic transactions in relation to cybercrime had played a role in the need for the Communication Service Tax (CST).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe issue was given thought following the huge<br \/>\ntaxes on mobile phones and other imported devices which was making it difficult<br \/>\nfor importers to clear their goods, thereby leading to smuggling of such goods<br \/>\ninto the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that there was the need for the tax to<br \/>\nensure that security protocols are put in place regarding electronic transactions, protect individuals from cybercrime and to arrest perpetrators who are into cybercrime.<\/p>\n<p>The MP emphasized that all taxes paid have<br \/>\nparticular programmes which they are used to finance and the CST stands as no<br \/>\nexception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government has already initiated<br \/>\ncyber-security protocols and presented a bill on it to Parliament; it has,<\/p>\n<p>therefore, reached the time to identify clearly a source to finance the project.
