Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Alliance for Women in Media in Africa (AWMA) has celebrated Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Vice President-elect for her historical feat as the first ever female elected to the high position of vice president in the history of Ghana.<\/b><\/p>\n

Her election as Ghana\u2019s first female Vice President-elect is a defining moment in the country\u2019s political history and is a milestone achievement which marks a significant step forward for the recognition of women\u2019s abilities as well as their representation in Ghana\u2019s highest offices.<\/p>\n

A statement signed by Madam Mercy Adjabeng, convener of the AWMA , noted that as a distinguished academic and former Minister of Education, her achievement shattered long-standing barriers which hindered women and inspired them to envision themselves in positions of power and influence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe celebrate Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman\u2019s dedication, perseverance, and leadership which have paved the way for future generations of women in public leadership, particularly in politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement said her historical election endorsed the crucial need for women\u2019s representation to ensure women\u2019s voices were heard and their issues, fairly recognized and expressed hope that her expertise and experience would broaden perspectives, increase creativity and innovation.<\/p>\n

Prof Opoku-Agyeman\u2019s election would diversify the pool of talents and competencies available and more importantly, provide a transformative impact of inclusive leadership to the country.<\/p>\n

As a women\u2019s media organisation, the AWMA recognised the importance of amplifying women\u2019s voices and promoting gender equality.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are convinced that her election will inspire more women to take on leadership roles and challenge the status quo to reflect her own words,\u201d the statement reaffirmed.<\/p>\n

Re-echoing the words of the Vice President-elect, \u201cWhat really matters is not to be first to come through the Door, what matters is holding the door opened for those behind to enter\u201d the AWMA has no doubts that that the vice-president elect would <\/b>work tirelessly to promote the welfare and development of all Ghanaians, especially women.<\/p>\n

The Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AWMA) is a progressive, non-partisan and non-governmental network based in Ghana, dedicated to empowering and networking women in media across the continent, advocating greater visibility and representation of women in media.<\/p>\n

This is to help women attain positions of influence and power to contribute to an inclusive global ecosystem where the voices, stories, experiences and images of African women in the media and African women and girls in general are correctly, sufficiently and equally represented.<\/p>\n
