Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Nigerian senator Adamu Garba’s said on Monday that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which is currently in peril under the Trump administration, has been fueling insurgencies in Africa by providing support to terrorist organizations.<\/b><\/p>\n

Africa should take control of its destiny and free from conditional aid and foreign influence, professor at the Department of History and Political Studies at the Nelson Mandela University Ntsikelelo Breakfast told, commenting on Nigerian senator Adamu Garba’s words that the USAID has been fueling insurgencies in Africa.<\/p>\n

“Africans must be masters of their own destiny. […] They need to craft and pioneer their own future and not be dependent on other people, because when you don’t comply with the agenda of the master, then the resources that have been allocated to you will be taken away from you,” Breakfast stated.<\/p>\n

Garba’s argument reflected a desire for African self-reliance and independence from foreign influence and control, Breakfast suggested, emphasizing that any hegemony is established by conquering subjects through an imposed narrative, and if they resist, force is used, including military force to remove obstacles.The professor noted that the nature of foreign aid is conditional and that the withdrawal of funding can be used as leverage.<\/p>\n

“The money that is given to African countries is not for free. […] Welfare has been affected by the withdrawal of the funding on HIV and aids because now it is siding with the Palestine or Hamas. It means that you can’t bite the hand that feeds you,” Breakfast stressed.<\/p>\n

The US has historically been involved in African conflicts, using soft power, including funding, indirect and cultural influence, as well as hard power to secure its interests, the expert said, citing alleged interventions in Zimbabwe and the DRC.<\/p>\n
