Azimio seeking power-sharing deal, not inclusivity – Khalwale

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has now alleged that the Azimio team is seeking a power-sharing deal and not inclusivity as they have demanded in the bipartisan talks.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Khalwale said the government has already embraced inclusivity in its leadership positions.

The Senator was responding to the inclusivity question he was asked and the phase of Kenya as per the Opposition demands.

“What they (Azimio) are simply saying is let us discuss how to share the country. The inclusivity thing purports that at the end of the election, you then go and start sharing positions away from the decision of the voters,” Khalwale said on Thursday.

The UDA Senator said Kenya Kwanza has appointed leaders from across the political divide meaning that the President William Ruto -led administration doesn’t exercise discrimination.

“The same government that the Opposition doesn’t like has already appointed leaders across all boards. Some of the high-ranking positions are occupied by Kenyans from communities that were strongly in favour of Azimio,” he said.

Khalwale emphasised that the constitutional role of the President is to serve the country and its citizens.

“The constitution is very clear that the president once in office, is supposed to serve the entire nation,”he said.

Early this month, Azimio leader Raila Odinga ruled out any prospects of a handshake with the Kenya Kwanza, asserting that they will not relent on their campaign for inclusivity.
