Africa-Press – Kenya. Inspector General of the National Police Service Japhet Koome on Thursday met the President of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) Stephen Kavanagh.

The meeting was held at the National Police headquarters in Nairobi.

The two leaders pledged to continue collaborating and cooperating with Interpol in the fight against crime.

Kenya through the Directorate of Criminal Investigation became the first Country within the Eastern Africa Region to be connected to the Interpol International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) Database.

This is a strategy that has ensured that NPS conducts a quality investigation of crimes against children, especially online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Kavanagh expressed his gratitude to NPS for sustaining its strategic support to Interpol by promoting police officers, Interpol projects, joint regional operations, and police databases.

The visit comes timely as Interpol is set to mark its centenary this year.

Interpol connects police in its 195 Member Countries.

Also present during the meeting was Interpol director of global outreach and regional support Abdulaziz Obaidalla, Attorney General head of Interpol Regional Bureau (RB) for Eastern Africa Emmanuel Ndayegamiye, head of Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB), Saiya Baraza, AIG Interpol policy analyst Marques Da Silva Sofia, and NPS Spokesperson, Resila Onyango.
