Africa-Press – Kenya. East Africa Primary Schools Games volleyball runners-up Soin Primary are keen to take the institution to another level after a good run in Rwanda 10 days ago.

The school headteacher, William Rono, called on corporates to support their volleyball programme to help them turn the institution into a centre of excellence.

He said: “The performance you are all witnessing is a result of hard work in the last two decades. We have been at it for many years and we have just started seeing the fruits of our labour and we need support,”

Rono was speaking when the team paid a courtesy call to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii to present their trophy.

He said they also need well-wishers to come to their rescue and help the youthful players and the school realise their dreams.

“For us as a school to improve at the regional level, we require a good volleyball court, playing shoes, nets and balls among other facilities,” he revealed.

The Uasin Gishu County-based school defied all odds to finish second at the just concluded East Africa Primary School Games.

Coach Joe Birech said they had prepared the pupils well as they have a good programme to train young players including those in nursery school.

The tactician said they would have won the trophy in Rwanda but height was their main undoing. “Our opponents in the final had both the body and height and we couldn’t match them,” Birech confessed.

The Turbo sub-county director of Education, Richard Ng’ang’a assured the players of the government’s support including following up on the players as they prepare to join secondary school.

Tanzania’s Kambarage Primary School emerged winners at the East Africa games after garnering 12 points in the championship that was played on a round-robin basis.
