MP Dekow blasts critics of Ruto’s Christmas giveaways

Africa-Press – Kenya. EALA MP Falhada Dekow Iman has come to the defense of President William Ruto amidst criticism over his distribution of Christmas gifts to neighbors in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County.

In an interview with the Star, Dekow praised Ruto’s generosity, emphasizing the President’s longstanding tradition of sharing Christmas gifts with those living near him annually.

“Why would anyone have the audacity to criticise President William Ruto for spreading Christmas joy in Sugoi and sharing festive treats with neighbours?” questioned the legislator.

She said the President had made it a tradition to share whatever he can with those around him every end of the year.

The former Senator underscored that all religions, including Islam, advocate for the spirit of sharing, particularly with the less fortunate.

On Friday, Ruto, accompanied by his wife Rachael Ruto, Governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu) and Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), along with several MPs and MCA’s, donated assorted Christmas goodies to thousands of people at his Sugoi residence.

However, a segment of leaders and other Kenyans criticised the President’s actions, labeling it a mockery, as they contended that the Kenya Kwanza administration had not undertaken substantial efforts to alleviate the challenges facing Kenyans.

Dekow dismissed their stance, asserting that the best course of action for those unwilling to contribute or share with the less fortunate is to remain silent.

“For those leaders who are not willing to contribute or share with the less fortunate, the least they could do is refrain from criticising those who can,” she stated.

She said keeping silent when others are extending a helping hand is a basic act of decency.

“Only heartless and mean individuals would criticize acts of kindness,” she emphasized.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has also defended Ruto over his Christmas donations.

“Unbelievable how some (whose sport is to find fault at everything as the President said) would criticise sharing with the people,” Mohamed said on X on Saturday.

Ruto was accused of putting in place punitive tax measures, which critics said had turned Kenyans into beggars.
