Africa-Press – Kenya. Twenty-three people have died due to floods in Makueni since the rains started, a report from the Kenya Red Cross and the Makueni County Emergency Response team shows.

It also indicates that four others are missing. The number of those affected is likely to rise, if the rain persists, the report says.

John Munywoki, who had a hearing impairment, was swept away by Kikuu River on Tuesday night. His body was found Wednesday morning at Nthange drift, Kalima Kikuu River.

Rodah Tili Nzomo died after her house collapsed on her. The case was reported at Matiliku police station.

Another man was swept away by Ivoesyo river in Kalamba. The search for the body is ongoing.

The Kenya Red Cross and the Makueni County Emergency Response teams have been rescuing families affected by floods in the county.

On Monday, they distributed food and non -food items to families camping at Mutyambua in Mbitini. The camp has 115 displaced households.

The people housed there are from Nguumo, Masumba, Kaiti, Kilungu and Mbooni, which are among areas worst-hit by floods.

Devolution executive Japheth Mangoka has been coordinating rescue teams.
