Africa-Press – Kenya. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on Kenyans to uphold the highest standards of hospitality during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in August.
Speaking ahead of the continental football event, Murkomen reminded citizens that Kenya will be welcoming numerous international guests and that it is important to make them feel at home.
“Kenyans, I think we must be at our best behavior because we are having visitors around. Even in any family, there is a day that when visitors come at home, you must be at your best behaviour, let us ensure that this time round we ensure that our visitors feel at home,” Murkomen said.
The CHAN tournament, which features national teams composed of players active in domestic leagues, will be hosted in Kenya, with matches scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Eldoret.
The event is expected to attract thousands of fans, athletes, officials, and media personnel from across the continent.
Murkomen urged Kenyans not only to be welcoming but also to assist visiting guests where needed.
“I want to ask Kenyans also to be very courteous to our visitors, many people will be in town, they will miss direction to where they are going, they will want to be guided on where to go, they will also want best places to visit in Kenya,” the CS said.
“Please let us be very courteous and supportive of our visitors because that is who we are as Kenyans, except in very small instances, we are always very courteous, very welcoming, and hospitable people, let us be as hospitable as possible be hospitable to our visitors.”
The Cabinet Secretary emphasised that the country’s reputation is built not just on infrastructure and service delivery, but also on how warmly it treats guests.
The CHAN tournament is seen as a key opportunity for Kenya to showcase its readiness to host major international events.
