Africa-Press – Kenya. The Milimani Law Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja Member of Parliament George Kiombori, after he failed to appear before the court over fake abduction charges.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 16, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) confirmed that the Juja lawmaker, alongside the Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, failed to appear before the court for the case proceedings on Wednesday.
The ODPP said that only four out of the six accused people in the case presented themselves to court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were granted bail of Ksh300,000 for each.
According to ODPP, the failure of the two to appear before the court contravened Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.
“A Nairobi court today issued a warrant of arrest against Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi after he failed to appear for arraignment on charges related to stage-managing his own abduction,” ODPP stated.
“At the Milimani Law Courts, Koimburi was charged in absentia alongside Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu and five others. They are accused of conspiring to defeat the course of justice in violation of Section 117(c) of the Penal Code,” it added.
According to the ODPP, the six other individuals were on May 25, 2025, accused of staging the fake abduction of the lawmaker, in a bid to prevent the arraignment of the lawmaker at the Kiambu Law Courts, where he was to face four counts of land fraud cases.
According to the ODPP, the court has also charged Kiombori with giving false information, through a press conference, where he claimed that he was abducted and tortured. Additionally, his aide was also charged with giving false information to a police officer at the Mugutha Police Station in regards to the abduction of the lawmaker.
“Court heard that he falsely reported the alleged abduction to an officer at Mugutha Police Station, prompting police action based on fabricated claims,” ODPP stated.
Koimburi’s controversial abduction led to Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja and other top security chiefs accusing him of stage-managing it for political gains.
According to the security agencies, in a press briefing on Wednesday, May 28, upon interrogation of three additional suspects in the alleged abduction, they found glaring and inconsistent gaps disabusing the forceful abduction.
“It is quite, quite inconceivable for an honourable Member of Parliament to go to that extent of state management, his own abduction, creating a lot of tension and fear in the country. Fortunately, we were able to exploit the investigations and expose to the public that the Member of Parliament was indeed not abducted,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) director Amin Mohammed.
